The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (Mahatma Gandhi NREGS, also known as the NREGA scheme) is a demand-driven wage employment programme, offering job security to rural households in India. The scheme guarantees least 100 days of wage employment in every financial year to every household whose adult members volunteer to do unskilled manual work.
